Problems at university?

Although there may be rumours about the carefree life of students, even in higher education it’s not all roses: Exam nerves, problems in your relationship or stressful life events can make life difficult. The good thing is:

We are here for you!

Our Psychosocial Counselling Service for students has a large, competent team of psychologists who will stand by you in difficult times. Talks with the PCS are free of charge and, of course, completely confidential. Simply contact the secretary’s office to make an appointment, and an initial discussion can take place. If you also need psychotherapeutic support, the PCS team will be happy to help you by referring you to specialists in private practice.

What we offer

In all personal conflict situations, we offer you the expert advice you need, for example in the case of:

  • Problems at work
  • Exam nerves
  • Decision-making problems
  • Relationship probelms
  • Contact problems
  • Self-esteem problems
  • Fears and inhibitions
  • Depressive moods
  • Stressful life events

In addition, the PCS regularly offers groups on various topics (study coaching, mourning, transitions after inpatient stays). If psychotherapy is necessary, the PCS supports you in finding suitable therapists.

Counselling sessions and online counselling are strictly confidential and open to students of the universities affiliated with the Studierendenwerk Heidelberg. No fees are charged.

Online counselling

In addition to a personal counselling interview, it is also possible to submit an online counselling request to the PCS team.

You will be asked to log in with your username and password. This is important for your security. In the interests of data protection, we use the generally recognised SSL standard (Secure Socket Layer). Here, no information is sent as an e-mail, but only deposited directly in an individual mailbox. This offers maximum security and anonymity.

Self-help advice

Coping with exams

Exam nerves can have very different individual causes. However, there are general rules that make it easier for you to prepare successfully for upcoming exams and to cope with exam anxiety.

Working independently

Studying often entails a degree of freedom that requires you to work independently and in a goal-oriented manner. This guide gives you concrete tips and advice on how to work in a structured way during your studies.
